In 1926, the machine fitter Josef Braun founded the company Ziegelmundstückbau Braun in Friedrichshafen/Kluftern. With his vast experience as a factory manager in several different brickworks, the dedicated brickmaker was now able to offer his extensive services to the entire ceramic industry.
Despite heavy set-backs due to World War II, the strong entreprising spirit of Josef Braun did not resign and he built up the firm again. The good old relations to former customers were preserved. In 1964 his grandson Horst Rank joined the company and has lead it ever since.
In 1972, the company moved from its first location on the Bahnhofstrasse to the present address at Markdorfer Straße 1 in Friedrichshafen/Kluftern. The new, more spacious location has enabled expansion and the number of employees has increased considerably.
At the new location, the product range as well as the market sectors continued to expand. In addition to the traditional sectors of dies and moulds for the heavy ceramic industry, technical ceramics, subcontracting for the metal industry and torch cutting were also added.
In 1982, the torch cutting activities as well as the welded constructions were moved to the new branch in Stahringen, at the western corner of the Lake of Constance. Since 1998 the premesis in Friedrichshafen/Kluftern include 8 production halls as well as the technical and administration offices. The Stahringen branch moved back to Friedrichshafen/Kluftern where all departments are now centralized at the one location.
Ramko-Maschinen GmbH was initiated in 1981 by Horst Rank as a trading company for machines and tools. Soon after, Ramko GmbH began to establish itself as a consulting enterprise for complex machines and systems, which specialized on client specific solutions.
Through a strategic partnership with the Avery Dennison Corporation, Ramko has become a full service solution provider for Avery's division of Retail Information Services.
